🇲🇽 Mayan & Yucatan Woven Hammocks
A Tradition Woven Through Generations
Traditional Mayan woven hammocks are among the most celebrated in the world — and for good reason. Hand-woven on a loom using Sprang, an ancient indigenous needle-working technique, these hammocks are widely considered the most comfortable you can sleep in. Cherished as indoor furniture and even used in place of beds throughout Mexico, they represent centuries of living craft.
Quality From the Thread Up
The quality of a Mayan hammock begins long before the weaving starts. We work directly with the families who manufacture every strand of string used in production — approximately 3 to 5 miles of thread per hammock. This level of vertical quality control is unmatched anywhere in the market.
500+ Families, One Living Tradition
From the factory, that thread travels to over 500 families across the Yucatán countryside, where the hand-weaving process takes place. Each hammock takes 3 to 5 days to complete depending on size. We've worked with many of these same families across multiple generations, ensuring every weaver earns a fair wage while keeping their ancestral tradition alive.
Once weaving is complete, each hammock is brought to the heart of Mérida, Mexico for a final quality inspection — then shipped directly to Maui, Hawaii, where Hangloose Hammocks Hawaii offers them to the world.
From start to finish, we guarantee the most ethically sourced Mayan hammocks with the highest quality and comfort available.
Fair Trade & B Corp Certified
We're also proud to partner with a premier organization that holds the distinction of being the only Fair Trade and B Corp Certified hammock producer in the world. The women in their network weave hammocks from home, in their own time and space — supplementing their family income while continuing to care for their children. The result is a heart-made hammock that truly gives back.
Care & Longevity
Mayan hammocks feature a cotton bed with nylon end lines and are best suited for indoor use or sheltered outdoor spaces. Taking your hammock down after each use will significantly extend its life and beauty.

🇪🇨 Hawaiian Fringe Hammocks from Ecuador
Where the Andes Meet Aloha
Nestled in a small weaving village in Northern Ecuador, against the breathtaking backdrop of the Andes Mountains, tradition and modern craftsmanship coexist in beautiful harmony. This is where our Hawaiian Fringe Hammocks are born.
Meet the Family: Juan, Luz Maria & Sandy
Juan, Luz Maria, and their daughter Sandy lead a home village factory that has grown from a family passion into a thriving community enterprise. By bringing mechanical loom technology to their village, they've created meaningful employment and passed on the skill of textile artistry to their neighbors — lifting their entire community in the process.
The Fabric That Does It All
These hammocks are crafted from Orlon, an ultra-soft, lightweight acrylic fabric that is UV and mildew resistant — making it as practical as it is comfortable. Orlon is a wicking material, drawing moisture away from your body when it's warm, while wrapping you like a blanket when the temperature drops. Perfect for sunny afternoons and cool evenings alike.
Always Unique, Always Changing
We offer a rotating selection of colors and designs that change frequently, meaning every hammock you purchase is truly one of a kind. No two are exactly alike — just like the people who hang in them.
🇹🇭 Thai Woven Hammocks from Northern Thailand
A Shared Passion, A Shared Purpose
In the villages of Northern Thailand, farming has long been the backbone of daily life. But as the costs of modern living have grown, traditional farming alone is no longer enough. Hammock weaving has emerged as one of the most remarkable community development stories in Southeast Asia — giving farmers and disadvantaged artisans a dignified, flexible way to supplement their income without leaving home.
A Hammock Room of Their Own
It's simple and beautiful: a dedicated hammock room is easily added to a home, transforming any family's living space into a workshop. Weavers from neighboring villages have joined the movement too, creating a growing network of independent artisans united by craft. There are no factories, no time clocks, no pressure — just skilled hands working at their own rhythm, paid per hammock, on their own schedule.
Weavers Who Are Their Own Boss
Each weaver supplies their own yarn and brings their own creative vision. Some patterns are made to order, but most designs are left entirely to the weaver's imagination — which is exactly how we like it. The result is some of the most unique and vibrant hammock color combinations you'll find anywhere in the world. The art of hammock-making suits the artisan's quiet lifestyle perfectly, and every piece reflects that calm, intentional energy.
Superior Outdoor Performance
Thai hammocks use a similar Sprang Woven technique as our Mayan hammocks, but with a key upgrade: a weather-resilient material and a tighter 3-strings-per-loop weave (vs. 1) that makes them far more durable in the elements. It's no surprise these are our #1 selling hammocks on Maui — built for the outdoors and the island lifestyle.
Enjoy your hammock knowing you're helping others across the horizon.
Our Commitment to People & Planet
From Mexico to Bali, Ecuador to Thailand — every hammock in our collection carries the story of the hands that made it. We are proud to source ethically, pay fairly, and celebrate the artisans who make Hangloose Hammocks Hawaii possible. When you hang in one of our hammocks, you're part of that story too.
